P1120 Inlet Metering Valve Circuit Malfunction
Description |
The Inlet Metering Valve (IMV), also called the Low Pressure Actuator, is located on the high pressure pump.
The IMV is used to control the rail pressure by regulating the amount of fuel which is sent to the pumping element of the high pressure pump so that the pressure checked by the rail pressure sensor is equal to the pressure demand sent out by the ECM.
The IMV is normally open when it is not being supplied with fuel.
The IMV is controlled by current.
The ECM determines the value of the current to be sent to the IMV according to engine speed, fuel demand, rail pressure demand, checked rail pressure, etc.
DTC Detecting Condition |
DTC No | Detecting Condition & Limp Home | Possible Cause |
P1120 | ● Detecting Condition The IMV is not controlled. The rail pressure remains 100 bar above or below the demand value. The pressure rise on starting is too slow. ● Limp Home Fast idle speed at 1000 rpm Reduction of performance to 50 % with engine speed limited to 3000 rpm |
-IMV -Open or short in IMV circuit -Injector -Fuel filter — High pressure pump — Fuel delivery system — ECM |
